All you need is a dishwasher tablet! The oven will be like new again

Check the manufacturer’s instructions first, particularly if your oven has unusual coatings, heating elements, or a special cleaning system.

You should also avoid putting a container of cleaning solution directly against heating elements.

The important principle is warm moisture loosens grime; it doesn’t need to become a dangerous cloud of steam.

You don’t need to turn this into an extreme experiment.

Once the interior has been exposed to warm moisture, switch the oven off and allow it to cool enough to work safely.

Open the door carefully.

The interior may be humid, and the cleaning solution may still be warm.

Use oven gloves when handling the container.

Fifth Step: Wipe Away the Loosened Grime
Now comes the satisfying part.

Take a soft sponge or microfiber cloth and begin wiping the oven’s interior.

You may notice that residue that previously seemed welded onto the surface now comes away much more easily.

Start with the largest flat areas.

Work from the top and sides toward the bottom so that loosened dirt doesn’t simply fall onto surfaces you’ve already cleaned.

Don’t immediately reach for the harshest scrubber.

Try a soft sponge first.

If a particular patch refuses to move, apply a little more of the appropriate cleaning solution and allow it to sit briefly before trying again.

The key is patience.

Many oven-cleaning jobs become exhausting because people try to remove every piece of baked-on food through sheer force.

Letting the residue soften first can make a huge difference.

What About the Oven Door?
The oven door is often one of the most visibly dirty parts of the appliance.

Grease and food splashes can collect on the inside of the glass, leaving a cloudy or brownish appearance.

A dishwasher-tablet solution may help loosen suitable surface grime, but the door requires extra care.

Don’t assume that every type of oven glass can be treated with the same cleaning method.

Avoid abrasive pads that could scratch the glass.

Avoid forcing liquid into gaps around the door.

And don’t disassemble the oven door unless the manufacturer specifically provides instructions for doing so.

If the door contains multiple panes of glass, cleaning between them can be a different problem altogether.

Sometimes what appears to be dirt on the surface is actually trapped between the glass panels.

In that situation, scrubbing the outside won’t solve the problem.

Don’t Forget the Corners
Once the main surfaces are clean, look closely at the corners.

This is where grease and food particles often hide.

Pay particular attention to:

The corners where the oven floor meets the side walls
The area around the door
The edges around removable racks
The back corners
Areas beneath the racks
The inner edges of the oven door
A soft toothbrush or small cleaning brush can be useful for stubborn areas.

But again, avoid aggressively scrubbing delicate coatings.

The goal isn’t to make every surface look brand new at the expense of damaging it.

A clean oven is useful.

A damaged oven is not.

Rinse, Rinse, Rinse
One step people sometimes overlook is rinsing.

Once you’ve removed the grease and food residue, wipe the cleaned surfaces with a fresh cloth dampened with clean water.

This helps remove remaining detergent residue.

You may need to rinse the cloth several times.

Don’t leave a visible layer of cleaning product behind simply because the oven looks clean.

Afterward, dry the surfaces with a clean cloth and leave the oven door open for a while so the interior can dry thoroughly.

This is especially important after using water inside an appliance.

What Should You Never Do?
The dishwasher-tablet method sounds simple, but there are several mistakes you should avoid.

Don’t Put a Dishwasher Tablet Directly on the Oven Floor
A dishwasher tablet isn’t an oven-cleaning puck.

Rubbing a dry tablet directly across a surface can be abrasive, and the concentrated detergent can come into contact with surfaces that aren’t designed to handle it.

Dissolving the tablet is a more controlled approach, but you should still make sure the method is compatible with your particular oven.

Don’t Pour Cleaning Solution Everywhere
More liquid does not necessarily mean better cleaning.
